Video to Digital File transfer Service
Digital Mix have been transferring tape and film in New Zealand since 2009. We’ve had the opportunity to work with customers from local and national government, councils, museums, and galleries to broadcasters, production companies, corporate customers and private individuals. We understand that the material sent to us is of significant value both historically and commercially and as such we treat it as if it was our own.
Our transfer facility uses some of the best video capture and processing equipment available and is regularly maintained and serviced in house. Our format list is extensive, and we cater for almost all video formats dating back to the 1970’s and right up to the introduction of solid-state recording formats.
State of the art video calibration equipment is used to ensure that your video transfer is at it’s best.
We do not outsource any of our work, all work is carried out by the company owners and in a secure environment. All reasonable precautions are taken to ensure the material is kept safe and secure at all times. We’re happy to sign NDA’s or agreements in the case of confidential or sensitive content.
Looking for referrals? We’d be happy to put you in touch with some of our customers.
Upscaling

Standards Conversion
Standards conversion from NTSC 3.58 and NTSC 4.43 to PAL for most of the analogue video formats we support. The NTSC format applies to tapes recorded in countries such as USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Philippines (to name a few).

Tape restoration, cleaning and repair

Dirty, moldy or damaged tapes are generally not too much of an issue. Digital Mix offer a tape cleaning, recovery and repair service. Go to this page for more information.
The transfer process
Depending on the tape format we will use a variety of encoders, time base correctors and video converters to convert either CVBS, YC or YPbPr (component) to SDI for direct capture into our digitising systems.
Digital formats are captured as direct SDI or via firewire to SDI converters.

For low resolution standard definition formats such as VHS we will use analogue processing and capture systems, capturing as uncompressed QuickTime (MOV) files.
All video is captured as uncompressed MOV and re rendered as compressed files. A basic top and tail edit or slate and bars removal (if requested) is included in our price.
Various calibration equipment and recalibration methods are used to ensure the video signals are recalibrated and are in optimal condition.
