Digital Betacam, more commonly referred to as Digibeta or DBC is a professional standard definition (720 x 576) broadcast video format first introduced in 1993 by Sony. It was the successor to the analogue version of the format – Betacam SP.
Digital Betacam was used extensively in broadcast television for many years, until tape based HD formats were introduced.
Similar in appearance to Betacam and Betacam SP, there are 2 size variants of this cassette, small and large. Pictured below are Betacam cassettes, digibeta look almost identical and can be identified by the Digital Betacam logo printed on the cassette flap.
The small cassette was generally used in electronic field production (EFP) or electronic news gathering (ENG) environments. Designed for use in cameras and available in various tape lengths from 5 to 30 minutes.

The large cassette was designed for use in studio VTR’s and was available in lengths from 30 to 90 minutes in duration.
