Repair and recovery of digital formats such as MiniDV, DVCPRO and DVCAM can be extremely challenging, especially when tapes have been exposed to temperatures and humidity levels beyond the manufacturers’ recommendations.

A customer in Fiji sent us a batch of 20 damaged Mini DV tapes. At first glance, they appeared to be unrecoverable. But if there’s one thing we enjoy, it’s a challenge.
The result: 19 of the 20 tapes were recovered, with minimal loss of video content.
Most MiniDV shells are bonded during manufacture, making them very difficult to open and repair. In cases like this, we rely on donor shells. To carry out the recovery, we broke open the damaged shells and transferred the tape reels into replacement shells. We removed damaged sections of tape and spliced the usable sections onto new reels.
After cleaning and baking, each tape was run through a Mini DV deck with the covers removed, allowing the deck to be cleaned regularly throughout the transfer.
Our DV transfer service is fully digital from end to end. We use industrial, broadcast-grade decks with serial digital outputs, avoiding unnecessary loss of quality. Our HD upscaling system helps standard-definition formats such as DV look their best when scaled to HD.
If you have DV tapes in storage, now is the time to bring them into the digital world.

We do not offer tape repair as a stand alone service, we only repair tapes we are converting.
