Use these charts to calculate approximate run times.
The most common film types are:
- Regular 8 – 16 fps – no audio
- Super 8 – 18 fps – no audio
- Super 8 – 24 fps – with audio
- 16mm – 16fps – no audio
- 16mm – 24 fps – with audio








Number of feet on a reel along bottom axis – approximate run time in minutes in the blue dots.
Reel sizes
- 50 ft – 3 inch – 75 mm
- 100 ft – 4 inch – 100 mm
- 200 ft – 5 inch – 125 mm
- 300 ft – 5.75 inch – 145 mm
- 400 ft – 7 inch – 175 mm
- 600 ft – 9.25 inch – 235 mm
- 800 ft – 10.5 inch – 266 mm
- 1200 ft – 12.25 inch – 310 mm
- 1600 ft – 13.75 inch – 350 mm
Regular 8 film can be identified by having larger sprocket holes down the side of the film. The spindle diameter for regular 8 film reels is approximately 7mm

Super 8 film can be identified by having smaller sprocket holes down the side of the film. The spindle diameter for super 8 film reels is approximately 12mm.

16mm film can be identified by having sprocket holes down one or either side of the film.
